w/ Andrea Neumann

20 December 2018, 20:00 - KoncertKirken, Copenhagen

Live:
Andrea Neumann (DE)

Listening Room:
Sound poetry collage by Jan Jelinek (DE)

arbitrary presents the fifth evening of a series of events on December 20th, 2018 in KoncertKirken, Copenhagen (DK) with an unusual concert format, combining live performances with a collective listening session.

The concert will feature a live performance by German musician Andrea Neumann (Solo for Zither, Mixer and Heartbeat, 2018).

Sounds of the performer’s live-amplified heartbeat trigger no-input-mixer feedbacks. The body/machine mix of pulses blend together with fragile chords and dense drones from the zither.
In Solo for Zither, Mixer and Heartbeat the performer is at the same time experimental test object and investigator: Feeding the system with sounds resulting from her autonomous nerve system, the performer simultaneously directs, controls and musicalizes it.

Listening Room: Zwischen – 12 Lautgedichte (Between – 12 Sound Poems)
A sound poetry collage by Jan Jelinek (31 mins.)

The sound poetry collage consists of twelve answers to twelve questions. The answers were all recorded in interview situations. From the speech of the interviewees – all eloquent public figures – their pauses are extracted and edited together. In a further step, each of the twelve collages controls a modular synthesizer via its amplitude and frequency. The resulting electronic sounds overlay and blend with the unarticulated words to form twelve sound constructs.

Neumann has been active primarily as musician and composer in the fields of new music and experimental music since 1995 and has been significantly involved in the formation and development of the "echtzeitmusik" scene in Berlin, which borders on fields as varied as noise, electronica, contemporary composed music, performance and sound art. She has engaged in intensive collaborations in the mixed border areas between composition and improvisation, between electronic and hand-made music, between instrumental and performative music with ensembles like “Les Femmes Savantes” and “Splitter Orchester”.
